According to Akeem Jamal, the electric vehicle charging point in the Motorgate garage is now operational such Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. This is a big step forward for sustainable transportation on campus, and we’re excited to see how it’s used.
How to Use the ChargePoint
You can use ChargePoint to charge your car if you are an electric vehicle (EV) owner. The first thing you need to do is create a free account on the ChargePoint website. Once you have done this, you can find a station near you and plug in your car.
The Motorgate garage has four Level 2 EV charging stations, all dual-port. This means that each station can charge two EVs at the same time. The stations are located in the north parking lot, near the entrance to the garage.
To use a station, park your EV in one of the two spots and connect your charger to the port. Once you have done this, open your ChargePoint app or card and hold it up to the reader on the station. This will start the charging process.
The Motorgate garage also has one Level 3 DC fast charger located in the south parking lot next to the exit ramp. This charger is for EVs that can charge at higher speeds, such as Tesla cars. To use this charger, follow the same steps above but select “Level 3” on the ChargePoint app or card before starting to charge.
Parking and Charging Fees
In Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation and most regions, most electric vehicle charge points are free, but some charge a fee. Generally, these fees are lower than the cost of petrol or diesel, so it is still cheaper to charge your electric vehicle than to fill up a traditional petrol or diesel car.
