Larry Baer was raised in San Francisco, California. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard Business School. He is married to Pam Baer with four children. His first career experiences were in multimedia broadcasting at organizations like CBS and Westinghouse.
The SF Giants CEO pivoted to sports by joining Major League Baseball. He spent the majority of his career with the Giants. His first actions with the Giants formed a new ownership group. By 2012, he rose in rank to chief executive officer of the Giants. In the span of less than a decade under his leadership, tutelage, and participation, the Giants obtained the prestigious World Series Championship title three times.
As an executive of a sports organization, Larry Baer oversees the construction and maintenance of the sports complexes and facilities. The home stadium for the Giants is Oracle Park. The park opened in 2000. Oracle Park quickly became a fan favorite. In 2008, the Sports Business Journal ranked Oracle Park as Sports Facility of the Year. His accomplishments have led to other recognitions from institutions such his alma mater Harvard Business School and the University of California.
Recently the Giants CEO begun construction of the Mission Rock. The new community will hold approximately 1,500 residences and over 250,000 square feet for amenity, retailers, and restaurants. 8 acres of nature spaces are spread throughout the community to encourage outdoor activities. The Mission Rock site is currently located near McCovey Cove.
